Monastery Of Pantanassa, Keratea Attica

Household & Domestic

Specifications: The Monastery of Panagia Pantanassa at Keratea in Attica is home to 60 nunes. It also receives many pilgrims and visitors during the year. The collection of wastewater in cesspits was causing a lot of problems, the biggest of which was the financial costs of emptying them many times weekly.

The Root Zone plant now provides a permanent solution. The system operates ecologically with cost-savings of 3,000 to 5,000 Euros per month. The problems of odour no longer exist. The Root Zone System has been constructed 150 m away from the Monastery buildings and fits harmoniously in the landscape of olive and poplar trees. Because of the natural slope the wastewater enters the Root Zone system by natural flow after the sedimentation of solid matters in the old existing system of three cesspits.

Technical Characteristics:

Unit's capacity: 60 P.E.
Size of the ROOT ZONE plant: 250 m2
Year of construction: 2010
Output COD-loading: 3 - 42 mg/l (2nd operational year)
